Elawan signs a 102 MW wind project in South Africa
Madrid, April 6, 2018.- Elawan Energy has signed 102 megawatts (MW) energy power purchase agreement (PPA), arising from the round 4 of the South African Power Plan tender.
Copperton wind farm, promoted by Elawan Energy as majority partner it is along with its local associates, is located in Northern Cape province, South Africa, and will represent an investment of over 145 million euros, with an estimated annual production of 360 GWh/year. The 20 years durable energy sales contract forecasts an income of over 400 million euros.
Construction works for this new project are scheduled for the second semester of 2018 and it is estimated to come into operation in 2020.
Carlos Rodríguez Tortosa, Country Manager of Elawan Energy in South Africa, stated that “it is very important the construction of this project, which strengthens our commitment to the wind development on international markets with a higher power for this technology”. He added that “Elawan Energy is building 200 MW for the Persimon Creek project, Oklahoma, and 22 MW for the Hannut project, Belgium, that will come into operation this year, and a photovoltaic plant of 24 MW in Toledo, expected to start producing at the end of 2019.
